Daniels shared not only how he prepared for the persona of Jared , but what element he wanted to be specially careful about . He explain how he , the showrunner , and the writer were peculiarly careful in how they approached Jared ’s genial health .
Lyon Daniels : Well , my fibre delves late into genial health . He has mental health issues , and that ’s something that ’s very personal and of import to me . I really wanted to respect that in my performance . So I attempt to be as authentic about it as possible . I let the cat out of the bag with the showrunner , Aaron , and the writer as well . We avoided sure words and just assay to figure out how to do it in a very natural and coherent room as possible .
I prepared for it by just watching movies . I watch Donny Darko , Goodwill Hunting . I pulled from Anakin Skywalker , just kind of trying to get a variety of things to emulate in my performance . I ’m so thankful to run a character as complex as Jared , and it was a great encyclopedism experience .

The theme of feeling of the Unseen plays a important role inThe Spiderwick Chronicles . How do you recollect that shot resonate with interview , and what did you learn from play your character who navigates these challenges ?
Lyon Daniels : I recall Spiderwick is kind of attuned for this generation . We touched on genial health and just all these relevant topics that are prevailing today , and I think it decidedly taught me so much about mental health and how to hold on with it .
And I think , candidly , this might vocalize frivolous , but I reckon the folklore aspect of the story as well . I mean , we take things like fairies do n’t care smoothing iron , and fairies ca n’t lie , and all of these awesome cool little facts and put them into one creation . It ’s so awesome .
Based on the novel series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles is an adventure fantasy series that was released for Roku in 2024. A family moves into their ancestral home only to discover their ancestors had been keeping a secret beyond the mortal world and now know that magical creatures exist. With the help of their aunt, the children of the Spiderwick manor set out on a quest to find the magical pages created by their father to protect themselves from a dangerous creature.
Jared ’s relationship with his family , especially his chum Simon , work a pregnant role in the serial . How did you and Noah mold on showcasing that dynamical and complexness of the family family relationship ?
Lyon Daniels : Yeah , it was really kind of natural between us . We read with each other a wad . We read with each other on Zoom , and then they flew us to LA we read with each other , and then we had a calendar month or two to hang out . We were doing school banking our hours , so we just got into the trivial shenanigans , and that ’s kind of where the twin - ish energy was come through .
There ’s just been petty weird coincidences between us as well , just wearing the same shirt or same dress . But yeah , even when McKayla and Joy perpetrate up , it was just natural from the get - go , it was kind of just magical how well we just all commingle our dynamics together and created this one beautiful vibe and Energy Department .
This show also has a wad of action and adventure . Can you talk about preparing physically for the role ?
Lyon Daniels : We actually trained with our scooters , and they lease us take them back , which they were quickly taken away , for obvious reasonableness . I guess physicality wise , I endeavor to make him more kind of brash , because he ’s such a rageful kid , and he kind of turns the violence fairly fast . And so I wanted to , at any spur of the moment , he can kind of just go at thing , play before he thinks , but I think that ’s the beaut of Jared .
Lyon Daniels On Bringing A Beloved Series To Life On Screen, “There’s Definitely Added Pressure”
The Spiderwick Chroniclesis a beloved series that has been a huge part of many people ’s childhoods . Daniels not only touch on the pressure that come from taking a newfangled coming to a beloved tarradiddle but also divvy up his own love for the original novel . He also explicate why going back to the books was such an integral part of his preparation .
Lyon Daniels : There ’s decidedly added pressure , knowing that it ’s a massive fan al-Qa’ida already , but I kind of just took a cryptical diving into the Koran . I really did want to respect Tony and Holly ’s piece of work primitively and kind of essay to get the original look of Jared and put that in my operation as well .
But yeah , no , there ’s definitely tot up pressure . But I reckon the nerveless affair about my fibre is that he is not like a demi god . He ’s not a wizard . He ’s just a normal kid who , and I sense like this is very relatable , he pulls out his bravery , and he goes against a magical , witching , immortal ogre . There ’s so many things about it that was scary , challenging , but it was a with child experience overall .
Were you familiar with the book serial publication prior to getting the role , or did you plunge in after you knew you mystify the part ?
Lyon Daniels : Yeah , I was familiar with the book series . I uprise up on the Word of God , the movie , and I ’ve always been such a big phantasy flake as well . unquestionably after I got the part , I took a deep dive , like I said , and draw things out . I watch the moving picture a caboodle , just kind of stress to get the genuine overall vibe of the task .
Were there any particular books or scenes fromThe Spiderwick Chroniclesbook series that you found particularly helpful in understand Jared as a character ?
Lyon Daniels : In the beginning of the record , when they pull up to the house , they ’re kind of talking about each sibling on an individual basis . It kind of said , Jared does n’t really know where he belong . Mallory knows that she wants to be a swordsman . Simon get laid he want to be a zookeeper or something , but Jared does n’t know what he wants to be .
And that really , really helped me read Jared because that ’s whole relatable . I ’ve been there once or twice , and I completely understand where he ’s coming from . And then just his brash moment in the Quran as well , and just pulling those panorama out . And also just creating my own history , since it ’s a different kind of take . What come about in New York and what he did and who he hung out with . It was just kind of all these sort of element .
What are you hope TV audience take aside from Jared ’s journey inThe Spiderwick Chronicles ?
Lyon Daniels : I hope they take forth that you ’re not alone and you may write your own destiny . You ’re completely capable of doing what you recollect you could do , and that you ’re kind of the hero of your own report . Because I think everyone sees themselves less than equal to .
Everyone does n’t see themselves as a hoagie , and to some extent , especially in their taradiddle , everyone form of run into themselves as a villain of someone else ’s , and that ’s not the fashion to go about thing . I just hope they relate to my character , his troubles , not being believed , and just feeling like an outsider . My personal experience , when I was a tiddler , I was always into the arts .
I never was into football game and basketball game , sportsman . I loved euphony and drawing , and because of that , I feel kind of like a loner , like an foreigner , because I did n’t really relate to any of the kids in my year . That ’s why I related with Jared too . I hope masses can take forth from that and be like , Yeah , it ’s cool to be an creative person . It ’s cool . It ’s nerveless to like this thing .
The Spiderwick Chronicles Balances Brilliant CGI & Practical Effects
Daniels draw Jared as a whipping boy and black sheep in his family . He explain how Jared , who ab initio did n’t know his place in the world , is able to step up and become a sub as he is pulled into this fantastical reality . He also touched on both the CG and practical effects .
Lyon Daniels : I always see Jared as kind of a whipping boy . He kind of gets blamed for everything . He ’s the foreigner of the family . Mallory knows who she require to be and what she is , and Simon know who he want to be and what he is . But Jared does n’t really know where he fit in . He does n’t really know his place , and because of that , he feels less than capable of anything , especially being in this heroic role that he is kind of forced to be put in since no one believes him .
And to see his evolution from this kid who thinks that all of his issues are flaws , even though they ’re just human , and to see himself as subject of being a hero is a very exciting evolution . It ’s beautiful . It was beautifully save , and I ’m so golden that I can plunk into these complexity .
It ’s sick for a show like this to be on streaming but because I palpate the yield value is so gamey . Every episode almost feel like a pic in itself . With the world being so heroic , full of fantastical creatures and element . Can you babble about acting with the CG that ’s in the show ?
Lyon Daniels : It was awesome . I always love work with CGI . It was my dream . I ’ve always had a vivid imaging , and fortuitously , it was also very practical . We had picayune thimble sheet puppets on solidification , and we had Magrath who was just totally get across in prosthetics , and the sheik on 10 foot stilts . It was astonishing . Not to mention the set designs .
The business firm was completely built , and every footling nook and cranny was filled to the brim with artifacts . There ’s piddling fairies cover in the wallpaper . It ’s charming through and through without VFX , and that could n’t have bump without our set designers and prop mass .
So being on set with that immersion and all the practicality , how did that help inform your functioning ?
Lyon Daniels : It facilitate so much . I already have a brilliant imagination , so it was super soft to kind of already envision those animate being . But no , it helped so much . As presently as I kind of stepped into that business firm , I felt I ’m not lie anymore . I ’m kind of taken over by my type because it was so immersive . It was like the craziest Doctor of Divinity session I could ever mean of . So it was really cool .
If you could have any magical item or power from the world ofThe Spiderwick Chronicles , what would it be and why ?
Lyon Daniels : Ooh , magical item . The vorpal sword is so cool . I jazz brand , so yeah , I wish I got to keep that . And then power , I think shape - shifting takes the bar . That ’s passably awing . you could do some good , some uncollectible with it , but I ’d do some good . I ’m just thinking Loki or something .
Lyon Daniels On Working With Christian Slater, “I Love That Peter Pan and Hook Dynamic”
Daniels revealed which scenes were his favorites to shoot and why he enjoy create the moral force with Slater . He also reflected on what he learned from Slater while act onThe Spiderwick ChroniclesandWe Can Be Heroes .
Lyon Daniels : I have so many . I call up my first brush with Thimbletack is number one . That was so fun to shoot , especially because the director , I thought I was just go to have to scream at a puppet and it would be really awkward .
But no , she made that super well-off . She screamed with me , and it was a really fun sentence . And then I guess also my cat and mouse scene with Christian were so , so fun , and I have it off that Peter Pan and Hook moral force . It was really cool to act out with him , especially with a legend like himself .
talk of Christian , I want to talk about him for a second because he is an absolute caption . He ’s been doing this for a long clip , and every single meter I see that dude , I ’m like , Man , it ’s Christian Slater ! Can you lecture about working with him and what you took aside from working with him ?
Lyon Daniels : Yeah . Well , it ’s rummy , I work out with him on my last task , Netflix ’s We Could Be Heroes . I just love him so much . He ’s a hot conducting wire . He take a sealed energy to plant , especially dally a villain who I have to scorn , but he ’s a voiceless guy to hate , and he ’s amazing .
He kind of taught me how to take thing seriously without taking them too gravely and taking yourself too seriously . Which is I recollect it ’s always important to have that . He bring in so much personal magnetism , and it was so fun to improvise and play with fit with him .
I require to swop gear mechanism with this last question because you kind of brought it up and I just want to talk about it . The Netflix family pic that broke records with 44 million menage views , We Can Be Heroes , you are phenomenal in it . You pay back to work alongside Priyanka Chopra , Pedro Pascal , Boyd Halbrook , and Sung Kang . Can you talk about your experience working on that project and what you need away as an role player from that project ?
Lyon Daniels : It was kind of my first big thing that I ’ve ever done . Netflix project , superhero theatrical role , Robert Rodriguez . It was just kind of a dream come true at the prison term . mold with those great you just note , and also just doing all the stunt work and really getting to experience the habitat of a set , feel that out and kind of experient that the first time was really a great erudition experience for me . I admit so much off from that . I unquestionably feel I grew as an role player from that time as well . I think it kind of just teach me how to pilot a set , how to play on a set , and it was very helpful .
