WhileRick and Morty are running for their lives from the Galactic Federation , Morty ’s parents - Jerry and Beth Smith - are call to Morty ’s school to have a public lecture with the principal , as Morty has miss an alarming telephone number of schooling twenty-four hours , and it ’s all because Rick keeps pulling him out of class . When Jerry and Beth get habitation , and find Morty in the garage with Rick , Jerry yells at his Father-God - in - law , pronounce Morty is n’t the type of shaver who can just escape school . When Morty asks his dad to expound , Jerry tells him that he ’s just not as smart or as special as the other youngster . While this scene - specially Morty ’s reaction to hearing this information - played as a one - off joke , it ’s actually a mess deeper than it in the beginning seemed .

While Jerry ’s dad was right to perpetrate his young son away from a cosmic god hellbent on world domination , just as Jerry was right to tell - off Rick for making his son miss school , both situations were care awfully . It was n’t Jerry ’s shift Nunzumel approached him , and it was n’t Morty ’s fault that Rick pulled him out of school . So to tell these baby that they ca n’t go on these transcendental adventures with dangerous the great unwashed because they ’re not extra enough is the opposite elbow room to treat those situation . It ’s Nunzumel and Rick who are the villains here , not Jerry or Morty . Yet it ’s the kids who feel punish for things they could n’t control , and their authority gets shattered by their own forefather along the way . Sure , Jerry and Jerry ’s dada just want their son to stay on dependable , but they did so in a way of life that made them feel down about themselves .
Thankfully , Rick and Mortyfans bed this scene had slight to no impact on Morty base on how his plot line has played out since , though that same lesson has definitely stuck with Jerry , as he ’s proven time and again to be a deplorable coward in the face of danger . What Jerry ’s pa say to him stuck with Jerry all his life , all the agency up until he pass that same deterrent example onto his own son , a chain of events that on the Q.T. turned one joke inRick and Mortyseason 1 into an example of bleak generational trauma .
