Successionseason 4 , episode 2 put out the cards for what could be the engagement for the final season , specially for Kendall Roy . Matsson insults Kendall but also reveals biz - changing information that he wo n’t renegotiate if the board votes to decline the merger . Kendall sees this as an chance to disrupt the business mess , then returns to the bar and decides to side with Shiv on the idea . Both of them , driven by an later motive , lie about their abstract thought for the determination and act like it ’s the smart job move to make . Monetarily , Kendall does n’t have much to win from the merger failing , butSuccessionseason 4 has already made an effort to show how nonmeaningful billions of dollar are to these characters . This move is fundamentally a lapse for him in a self - destructive path to destroy Logan . The only thing Kendall gains from voting no at the board coming together is the pride of having been a nuisance to his begetter , and testify that he has n’t folded over despite all that ’s happened to him . If Kendall continues to make emotionally aim move like this , it could be the start of a dark spiral down for him .
