The Boys
Summary
Mother ’s Milk(or , MM , as he ’s more comfortably known ) is one of the independent characters inThe Boys , and is , indeed , one of the mostprominent member of the Boys- not to remark perhaps the most herculean . In the comics , MM is a supe , but not like any other supe in the serial . Though originally , MM was something much more than simply a singular supe , but someone who was , “ a duo of hundred years old ” .
Inthe backmatter toThe Boys Omnibus , readers are given bonus material courtesy of the series Lord , Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson . That includes the original character outlines for everyone in the series , including and especially each member of the Boys . In the section dedicate to Mother ’s Milk ( write by Darick Robertson ) , the original schema specifies thatMM was in the first place 200 years erstwhile , and that the only mortal who knew that was Butcher .
Underneath each character outline , Garth Ennis made his own notes about how that fiber ended up in the concluding series compare to the original conception . For MM , Ennis notes that the plan to make the character 200 years old go away “ out the window ” fairly ahead of time . However , the thought that MM was hundreds of years old upon his origination think of that it will always be a part of his character whether it was used in the finished serial or not - even just in the meta sense .
The Boys ’ co - creator looks back on the other part of his serial publication and laments his inauspicious use of one of comic book of account ’ most notorious tropes .
The Boys Still Kept the Grossest Part of MM’s Original Origin Story
The Boysabandoned the idea that MM was 200 years old, but kept the reason why.
MM ’s artificially farsighted biography originally came from the Milk River produce by his female parent ’s breast . He ’d on a regular basis booze his mother ’s Milk River , and in doing so , he ’d essentially be immortal . Not only that , but he ’d also maintain his superhuman strength . No Compound vanadium or any technical school - base enhancement , MM just drink his mother ’s Milk River , and he ’d be powerful enough to gainsay any supe the Boys were expire up against .
In many ways , this line up with what ended up in the series . MM ’s momma worked in a manufacturing plant where she was exposed to tracing of Compound V , which resulted in her children give birth birth shortcoming . The trace amounts of Compound V in her Milk River was the only matter preserve MM alive , and it also granted him super strength . The only thing that was changed was the bit about MM being hundreds of years onetime . However , the idea of a fully grown man drinking his mother ’s Milk River continue , which is easily the gross part of his lineage .
Garth Ennis Didn’t Like How “Super” MM’s Original The Boys Origin Was
The Boysis a series that truly despises superheroes . Having superpowers in this serial is virtuously reprehensible in and of itself , even if that power is being used for good . MM and the rest period of the Boys have access to impermanent major power - with MM ’s source being notably unique - but they are not , stringently talk , supes . However , if MM was hundreds of year one-time , standing up for what is right throughout that stretch of history , he ’d feel too much like the ‘ superheroes’The Boysso vehemently hates , and on a regular basis punishes - something Ennis himself touch on on inThe Boys Omnibusbonus material .
In the rattling scheme of affair , MM being 200 years former really would n’t have added much to his fiber aside from being a personal secret that may have amounted to an interesting subplot spark . What is interesting , however , is that this face of MM ’s character was ever entertained at all , and was in the beginning an intact aspect of his wider level arc , asThe Boys’Mother ’s Milkwas in the first place secretly ancient .
