Grootspace is the ancestral home of Groot ’s people , and the sector of the galaxy it inhabits give life sentence to countless other living forms that survive within Grootspace . And now , Drax the Destroyer is willing to become flat to protect it .
The Spartoi see Grootfall as something kin to Galactus : a planet - killer . They aim to demolish it , and the easiest way to do that is to keep Grootfall and its allies from accomplishing its task of literally make a sun . The only way for something as gargantuan as Grootfall to blossom into dead on target Grootspace is with a sun , and that sunshine needs to be ignited by someone : Drax .

Grootspace is the natural state of this sphere of the galaxy , meaning it ’s not an invading effect ( like the Spartoi call back it is ) , but the very essence of life there . Drax will be allowing all life within Grootspace the probability to be reborn , just as he was on the precipice of his own form of ‘ rebirth ’ .
Throughout thisGuardians of the Galaxycomic run , the Guardians have been strain to obtain the soul of Drax ’s original contour , Arthur Douglas . Douglas died on Earth , and his essence was contain by Kronos and shape in the Drax the Destroyer fans know and love today . Drax was Arthur Douglas converted , but he was without Arthur ’s soul . Until , the Guardians bring home the bacon in track it down and give it to Drax . Though tragically , it seems Drax may die before he can reconnect with this piece of himself that ’s been lack for so long . Or , perhaps not .
Drax is Sacrificing Himself to Save Grootspace, & That Could Be His Salvation
Drax is in physical possession of his original soul , with his handwriting on the clit to activate a Lord’s Day within Grootspace that will intend rebirth for all within it . Therefore , it ’s all - too possible that Drax will know the same conversion , with Arthur Douglas ’ soulfulness incorporated into his converted conformation . If all these other life forms can feel new life within Grootspace , why not Drax ? It would be a great completion of his spark and the staring final payment for his ultimate sacrifice .
While this would doubtlessly make his sacrifice less emotionally impactful , the plot line would be swap a tragic ending for a felicitous one , and would allow this fan - favorite Guardian the fortune to keep being a cosmic poor boy in the Marvel Universe . However , as it resist , such a rebirth may very well not be in the carte du jour for Drax , as this prevue ofGuardians of the Galaxyseemingly promises the heroic death of Drax the Destroyer .
