In 2013 , Bill Skarsgård played Roman Godfrey in Netflix ’s revulsion TV seriesHemlock Grove . Based on Brian McGreevy ’s 2012 novel of the same name , Hemlock Grovetook spectator to the fictitious title township in Pennsylvania to meet the Godfrey family , the wealthiest in Hemlock Grove , lead by Olivia Godfrey ( Famke Janssen ) . Olivia ’s son and heir to the Godfrey empire was Roman , and she also had a girl , Shelley , who , after dying when she was a baby , was bestow back in a very Frankenstein way . Shelley ’s past was n’t the only secret Olivia Godfrey kept , asshe and Roman were “ upirs ” , a type of lamia .
Hemlock Grovewas one of Netflix ’s first original telecasting show but was removed in 2022 .
Hemlock Grove ’s tale and character were discrepant , it addressed some controversial issue ( and did n’t do it well ) , and it got more helter-skelter and messier as it progressed .

Roman ’s “ upir ” nature did n’t amply manifest until the destruction ofHemlock Groveseason 1 , and for the next two seasons , he struggled with it as he was driven to feed and kill . The concept ofHemlock Grove , which combined three definitive monsters ( vampires , Frankenstein ’s teras , and werewolves through Roman ’s booster Peter Rumancek ) , along with the murder mystery in time of year 1 , was enough to draw the audience ’s aid , but the serial publication did n’t do much to keep it . Hemlock Grove ’s story and character were inconsistent , it treat some controversial topics ( and did n’t do it well ) , and it got more disorderly and mussy as it progress .
Count Orlok has a better - structured story and mythology , and the movie has a clearer design than Hemlock Grove .
Roman Godfrey was also a problematic character andthe whole “ upir ” mythology was never fully explained(nor was it in the book ) , adding to the repugnance and mess ofHemlock Grove . Because of this and more , Nosferatu is already good thanHemlock Groveand Skarsgård ’s Roman Godfrey , as Count Orlok has a better - structured account and mythology , and the pic has a light purpose thanHemlock Grove , which felt aimless .
